Abstract

Healthcare service providers aim to fully meet population needs and foster a healthier, more productive, and happier society. This study evaluates a case of the operational efficiency of healthcare institutions (hospitals) under both certainty and uncertainty using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) methodology, proposed by Charnes, Cooper, and Rhodes (1978), building on Farrell's (1957) foundational ideas and later expanded by Joe Zhu (2009), Cook and Seiford (2009), and Anderson and Sweeney (2016), among others. The research presents significant findings and extends the DEA approach to uncertainty settings within the healthcare sector. This work introduces an innovative application of DEA to hospitals in Michoacán, particularly in the context of diffused logic, which had not been previously analyzed using this approach. The findings demonstrate that DEA offers valuable insights into operational efficiency beyond traditional data, helping guide strategic planning and effective decision-making. This, in turn, supports the development of business strategies and optimized scheduling of operations in healthcare institutions.
